This farmhouse, built in 1850, stood vacant for nearly 50 years before we renovated it in 2026. We've preserved the original features, and we've given whatever could be reused a new lease of life. Two of the designer chairs are made from wood taken from the house itself—you're literally sitting on a piece of history.
The house is filled with colours, books, art and vintage furniture with a story to tell. The living room used to be where neighbours came to make calls or get messages—they kept the first telephone here. The layout of the room provides space for gatherings, and the long table invites everyone to share meals together.
Surrounding the house is the farmstead, with fields and woods. We've restored the old barn, and we've preserved the entire farmstead. You can explore the farm’s own woods at your leisure, where the trails wind through varied terrain with viewpoints overlooking the fjord and the landscape around Io.
The farm has kayaks and canoes that you can take down to the lake—the waters offer calm coves and plenty to explore along the shore. Eldsfjellet's right nearby, and you can walk there from the house or drive about 10 minutes to one of the trails leading up the mountain, where there's a day cabin.
