Nydala Monastery was founded in 1143 by Cistercian monks sent from Clairvaux Abbey in France, and is now one of the oldest Cistercian monasteries in Sweden. It was built of stone and it took about 100 years to complete the central parts of the monastery. The local museum, Nydala hembygdsmuseum, is also worth seeing.
