Morgensolen is the downstairs apartment of our house on the mountainside in Bønes, a quiet residential corner on the edge of Bergen. It is named after the morning sun, which comes up from behind the mountains and straight into the rooms.
Straight out onto the mountain
The path up Løvstakken starts at the top of our own garden. Take the natural staircase along the terrace, turn right, and you are on the mountain. It is about an hour and a half to two hours to the top, and the view over Bergen is the reward. If you would rather have an easier walk, Løvstien runs into the city and takes about two hours.
Deer come through the garden fairly often, and two or three times a year we see the northern lights.
Inside
The kitchen and living area are open plan, with enough in the kitchen to cook properly rather than just reheat. The bed is a 160 cm queen in the sleeping alcove, with blackout curtains that earn their keep in June when it hardly gets dark.
The wifi is fibre, 500 Mbps both ways, so video calls and streaming hold up even with both of you online. If you are working from here and want the steadiest possible connection, there is an ethernet port behind the sofa. The bathroom floor is heated, and between that, the washing machine and the drying rack, coming back soaked from the mountain is no trouble at all.
Your own space outside
The rooftop terrace above the garage is yours, with seating, a grill and a bålpanne for the evening. It looks out over the treetops and down the valley, green rather than city, which is a good part of why it is so quiet up there.
You are also welcome to cross our main terrace to reach the path up Løvstakken. The main terrace and the upper garden are our own space, so please pass through rather than settle in, but the way up the mountain is always open to you.
Getting here
There is a free designated parking spot, and check-in is self-service with a smart lock, so there is nothing to arrange on the day. Bergen Airport is a twelve-minute drive. The bus stop is five minutes on foot, and from there it is about sixteen minutes to the bus station or twenty-three to Festplassen, which is handier for the museums and the shopping streets. Two supermarkets are a few minutes' walk down our street.
Worth knowing before you book
The apartment is reached by stairs, so it may not suit guests with limited mobility.
The parking spot suits regular cars and SUVs, but not large vans or campers.
The apartment is for up to 2 guests. A child of 2 or over counts as one of those two, and an infant under 2 in a cot does not count at all. We have a cot, a high chair and a baby bath if you are travelling with a little one.
There are outdoor cameras covering the garden and the area above the garage. None of them can see inside the apartment.
No pets and no smoking, and Morgensolen is meant for a quiet stay rather than parties, with quiet hours from 21:00 to 07:00.
Us
We are Jurgen and Kristin, and we live one floor up. The apartment has its own entrance and is completely private, so the place is yours, and we are close by if you need anything. We put the heating on before you arrive and leave coffee in the kitchen, and if you want a recommendation for dinner, a walk or a day in Bergen, just ask.
